Culinary Journeys

Fragments that bring culinary traditions and new encounters together.

Forough & Sahar Sodoudi of the Dr & Dr Culture and Food Lab in Berlin are sharing Persian culture through cuisine, culinary experiences, and cultural exchange.

"Persian culture is often hidden behind politics and religion, and its fascinating aspects are not well represented in Germany. Therefore, we left our academic positions and created the Culture and Food Lab in 2019 to share finesses of the Persian culture."

Devashree Vyas shares her food creations in an attempt to reconnect with her memories of home and create new culinary memories in Germany.

"Growing up in Mumbai, India, cultural diversity has been an innate part of my life, and food has been a profound expression of this cultural diversity, no matter where life has led me. From lunch boxes of friends that told stories of their native places, to being an immigrant in Germany today and seeking both - the taste of home and the adventures of a world I am exploring, food memories are integral to my own identity."

Aida Dzhafarova is a culinary enthusiast from Lecce, Italy, and she shares her story through a gelato creation inspired by Fragment #69 and Italian craftsmanship.

"The culinary arts in Italy are one of the most rewarding, inexhaustible, and infinitely varied subjects, bringing out the best in people. And while an Italian meal traditionally begins with an aperitivo, it always ends with dessert. One of the most famous Italian desserts in the world is gelato."

World Heritage Studies students at Brandenburg Technical University in Cottbus, Germany bring together an international community over food and cultural exchange.

"Out of place and in an unfamiliar land, these individuals gather every year to welcome the new incoming batch of students to the World Heritage Studies program. Exchanging food, stories, and passions, this event marks the first of many which weave the student body into a powerful whole."

Israel Gutiérrez shares his story in Oaxaca, Mexico through community gatherings and moments inspired by Fragment #63, weaving connections over food, conversation, and shared experiences.

"The “Evening of Grilled Bananas” with friends makes us dream of a long stay here and weave moments of community. This moment is already unforgettable: the first spark, then charcoal turning to embers, plantains with their charred peels, to be enjoyed alone or with fresh cheese, spreadable cheese, condensed milk, hazelnut cream, and/or cinnamon powder."

What is CulturalxCollabs?
