In:complete. Destroyed - Divided - Complemented

Fragments are an everyday phenomenon! Broken hearts, torn shoelaces, memory gaps, building ruins. Also museums are confronted with fragments. In their collections they hold countless broken pieces, archaeological findings, war-torn artwork, objects ripped out of their contexts or never-finished works. Here, some of their eventful stories will be told.

These online stories are part of the special exhibition In:complete. Destroyed - Divided - Complemented (on view at the Kunstbibliothek, 30 Sept 2022 to 15 Jan 2023). It combines objects from 23 collections within the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz from prehistoric times to the present. Using selected objects from the exhibition, the stories explore questions of division and completion, preservation and destruction, memory politics as well as the power of interpretation.
